A major accident just after 1am Sunday morning seriously injured a Willis couple. According to Conroe Police a 2008 Ford Explorer was north on Interstate 45 when he left the roadway striking two large pine trees in the median between the northbound and southbound lanes. Life Flight was dispatched to the scene as Conroe Fire Crews spent almost one hour and thirty minutes cutting the 41-year-old driver and his 45 year-old female passenger out of the truck.
The firefighters could be seen to be physically exhausted as the humidity was extremely high and temperatures still hovering in the upper 80’s. With their heavy gear on they worked not stop to save the victims of the accident.
The northbound lanes were closed for almost two hours as they work..
PHI was also dispatched later in the rescue to transport the passenger but it was determined to transport them by ground due to the large number of trees and narrow roadway to land a helicopter.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.
