CONROE- A Splendora mother was freed Thursday on $6,000 bond after spending three days in the Montgomery County Jail for injuries police believe she inflicted on her 5 and 8-year-old children.
Mary Ann Davis, a.k.a. Mary Ann Cochran, 24, was arrested by Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies on Monday, and booked into the jail around 8:15 p.m., charged with two counts of injury to a child.
Staff members at Creighton Elementary School, where the children are enrolled, noticed “severe bruising” on both children and contacted law enforcement, according to MCSO Lt. Joseph Sclider.
Both children said they were beaten by Davis with a belt on Sunday evening for not cleaning their room.
MCSO detectives responded to the school, located on FM 1485 near Grangerland, where they quickly concluded the children were severely beaten. Detectives contacted Child Protective Services and their investigators took the children into custody.
The officers located Davis and interviewed then arrested her.
It was far from the first arrest for Davis, whose previous convictions include multiple theft counts and failure to report to her probation officer.
It is interesting to note that on Jan. 3, 2008, Davis was arrested and charged with “assault causes bodily injury / family violence.” On April 18, 2008, the charge was dismissed.
