Accused of Paying with ‘Funny Money’

HARRIS COUNTY, TX- On Saturday, Deputies with Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a counterfeit money call at the Burlington Store located in the 28000 block of I-45. Burlington Loss Prevention employees told Deputies a man and woman used counterfeit bills to pay for around $1,000 worth of merchandise and then left the premises in a vehicle.

Deputies located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The suspects, 37-year-old Jatoya West and 19-year-old De’ondre Moore, still had the allegedly fraudulently obtained / stolen merchandise from Burlington.

“Jatoya West and De’ondre Moore were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Theft. Their bond was set at $100 each out of County Court 12,” Constable Mark Herman said.

  1. Why were they only charged with simple theft, and not counterfeiting? $100 bond?

Shouldn’t they have a high bond while a search warrant is obtained to go back to their nest check for more money / devices used to make the money and the investigation turned over to the FBI?

    What am I missing?
