ADDITIONAL DETAILS ON ESCAPEE CAPTURE TUESDAY

Two Liberty County escapees that sparked a several hours Multi-Agency manhunt are finally in custody and on their way back to jail.
Several members of the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, including Sheriff Greg Capers himself, assisted with the intense law enforcement search for the two escapees’ from Liberty County identified as Chance Hunt and Clay Harvey that happened earlier today. San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office Communications’ Division received a 9-1-1 call around 3 o’clock this afternoon from an observant Shepherd resident who said he saw Hunt and Harvey in the wood line near Kathy Street in the Cherry Creek subdivision. The caller said he watched the news report earlier this morning and said the two men who matched the description of the escapees’ including clothing details the men wore, and even watched as the men grab a chair from a residence to climb over a fence as they were seen running loose in San Jacinto County.
Multiple Deputies and authorities from the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, San Jacinto County Constable Precinct 1, 2, 3 and 4, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Liberty County Constables Office Precinct 1 and, Texas Rangers and several other Law Enforcement Agencies flooded the area searching for the two escaped men after receiving the tip.
Following several hours of dealing with the heat and unwavering environmental conditions, Harvey was found by a San Jacinto County Sheriff Deputy lying in the brush in San Jacinto County as he attempted to conceal himself from capture. Liberty County Sheriff’s Office with the use of their K-9 unit sniffed out Hunt who also was in San Jacinto County, roughly a block away from Harvey’s’ capture. Harvey was transferred to the custody of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office without further incident. At the time of the release both escaped men will likely be charged with the escape and possibly other related charges to follow. Sheriff Capers said this capture is a testament of local and surrounding agencies partnering together with the common goal of keeping our citizens safe from these criminals running loose in San Jacinto County. Sheriff Capers sincerely thanks the citizen who called in with the information making our jobs in capturing the two easier and grateful that nobody was hurt during the widespread manhunt.
