Texas Governor Greg Abbott released the following statement regarding September 11 – Patriot Day:
This Wednesday marks 23 years since the unprecedented terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. In response, the United States Congress enacted Public Law 107-89 to designate September 11 as Patriot Day and honor the lives lost that day.
This statute requests that the president issue a proclamation each year calling on state and local governments and the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate programs and activities. President Joe Biden has issued such a proclamation for this year calling on all departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the United States, as well as interested organizations and individuals, to display the flag of the United States at half-staff on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives.
As such, flags of the State of Texas and the United States of America shall be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Texas Capitol and throughout the state in honor of Patriot Day.
The First Lady and I encourage individuals, businesses, municipalities, and other political subdivisions and entities to fly their flags at half-staff that day in remembrance of the lives lost and of the courageous acts of first responders and others who provided aid and comfort during those turbulent times
