ANGERED DRIVER FIRES SHOTGUN INTO VEHICLE STRIKING PASSENGER

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says the shooting happened near FM-529 and Glen Chase Drive, near Highway 6 North. Harris County Det. John Calderon said deputies were called about the incident at about 8 a.m. on Saturday. According to the detective, a vehicle with three people inside was going east on FM 529 when they were cut off by the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle allegedly stopped abruptly, causing the victim to slam on the brakes. Authorities later learned that the 33-year-old suspect, later identified as Franklin Alvarado, became stranded when he allegedly cut off the victims. The victims honked their horns, which authorities believe angered Alvarado. Alvarado allegedly got out of his vehicle and grabbed a shotgun from his trunk. The victims went around him and tried to drive off, but authorities say the suspect fired into the back of the vehicle. A passenger in the victim vehicle was reportedly struck in the back of her head by a bullet fragment. The 41-year-old was eventually taken to a hospital, and her injury is said not to be life-threatening. When deputies responded to the scene, they were given the suspect’s description and location. Alvarado was then found in the 6700 block of Kentwick Drive, where he allegedly pushed his vehicle, and he surrendered to authorities. Det. Calderon said the Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted an aggravated assault charge against the suspect. Officials say Alvarado was the only person in his vehicle at the time. No threat to the public is suspected.
