At approximately 6:45 a.m. Thursday,a Harris County Constable Precinct 7 Deputy observed a stranded vehicle on the right shoulder on the Sam Houston Toll Road East, Eastbound at Cullen Blvd. The Precinct 7 Deputy pulled over to assist the stranded motorist in a White Lexus GS350. The Deputy called the Toll Road Incident Response team and asked for a tow truck to be dispatched. Once the tow truck arrived, the Deputy blocked the far-right lane for the safety of the stranded motorist and the Incident Response technician while the technician loaded the stranded vehicle onto the tow truck.
As the incident was being cleared by the Toll Road Incident Response Team Technician, a distracted driver attempted to move from the far-right lane to the next lane over without signs of slowing their speed and struck the Precinct 7 vehicle. The striking truck, a 2024 Chevy Silverado, flipped over and the driver was trapped in the vehicle. Additional Precinct 7 Deputies responded to the scene and began the extraction process of the striking motorist and began helping our Deputy as well. Houston Fire Department arrived on scene and assisted in the extraction and began administering first aid to the striking motorist as well as our Deputy. The striking motorist was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. He is reported to be in stable condition. The Precinct 7 Deputy was also transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
