Sunday afternoon, a Pct. 3 Deputy made a routine traffic stop in the 8900 block. of E. Sam Houston Twy. N. While on the traffic stop, the Deputy was seated in his marked Tahoe when another motorist slammed into the rear of the Tahoe, shoving it into the rear of the vehicle stopped in traffic. Thankfully, the driver stopped in traffic and was not injured, and the Pct. 3 Deputy sustained only minor injuries and will make a full recovery. The driver of the striking vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported by Life Flight. Our prayers are with all involved.
Moments before the accident, the striking vehicle was seen driving erratically at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic. The driver then attempted to pass another vehicle using the shoulder, causing him to slam into the parked Tahoe.
Pct. 5 Constables are handling the investigation and have charged the driver of the striking vehicle with aggravated assault and driving while intoxicated.
