Just after 230am Thursday morning the Harris County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a person attempting to break into an ATM at the drive-thru of the Amergy Bank at 1000 Spring Cypress. A patrol unit was just blocks from the call and responded within a minute. The deputy arrived and witnessed a green Dodge truck pull out of the driveway and head east on Spring Cypress. As the deputy attempted the traffic stop the vehicle fled east on Spring Cypress, crossing the tracks and traveling north on West Hardy, a dead end road. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and fled into the woods. Multiple units surrounded the area and a K-9 Unit deployed his dog. After almost an hour of searching the area , much of which was under water, just south of the Grand Parkway, the search was called off. The Dodge truck was a stolen truck from Dallas. The ATM at the bank suffered extensive damage as the suspect attempted to get into it using a cutting torch. Most of the damage was to the case and electronics as the safe itself suffered little damage.
