Just after 1 a.m. Tuesday morning the Montgomery County Hospital District received a call for a auto pedestrian accident on FM 1097 East at Business Park. When EMS arrived along with North Montgomery County Fire Department a female was found deceased in the American Legion parking lot.
A Chevrolet 2500 utility truck was also in the parking lot with extensive right front damage.
Willis Police responded to the scene to begin the investigation,
The driver of the truck identified as Jeffery Atkinson, 30, of Willis was traveling east on FM 1097. As he came out of the curve he struck a female who appears to be in her forties. The female was thrown just over one hundred feet. The driver of the vehicle stated he did not see the female who appeared to have been walking partially on the improved shoulder.
Officers gave the driver a field sobriety test and a breath analyzer test both of which came up negative. Atkinson did voluntarily submit to a mandatory blood test.
FM 1097 reopened just after 4 a.m.
The victim was taken to the Montgomery County Forensic Center by Eickenhorst Funeral Directors.
The females name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
