AUTO VS GATOR FATAL ON SH 99

Just after 3 am Anthony Jackson was traveling at the posted speed limit of 70 mph on SH 99 going eastbound. As he crossed the San Jacinto River bridge he struck a 10-foot alligator in the middle of the highway severely damaging and disabling his vehicle. He traveled almost a half-mile with the gator estimated to be 300 plus pounds under his vehicle. He was not injured however Porter Fire, South Montgomery County Fire and MCHD responded to the scene along with Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The gator was pronounced deceased and loaded on a wrecker awaiting word from the Game Warden as to the disposition of it. After contacting the Game Warden the Montgomery County Deputy was told to dispose of the gator in the San Jacinto River. EMC Wrecker transported it to the river and after raising the bed they were able to slide it off over the bridge railing.
