(HOUSTON, TX) – Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) investigators have a robbery suspect in custody and are looking for his two accomplices after an armed bank robbery on Tuesday in which an HCSO deputy was shot.
Jerome Goody, 23, is in the Harris County jail charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault of a peace officer.
During the robbery at Preferred Bank located at Stuebner Airline and Worcester, Deputy Mitchell Bettin exchanged gunfire with at least two suspects. The exchange left Bettin with a gunshot wound to the hand. He was taken by ambulance to Ben Taub Hospital where he is currently still being treated.
All three suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that was later recovered in a nearby neighborhood. Due to the proximity of several Klien Schools the schools were put on lockdown.
Goody was located at LBJ Hospital after seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. His accomplices were described only as armed, masked men.
As is customary in officer-involved shootings within HCSO jurisdiction, the case will be investigated by the HCSO Homicide Unit and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
