Barricaded man kills himself after fatally shooting wife’s step dad in NW Harris Co., officials say

Patrol cars, heavily-armored SWAT officers, and a tactical robot were spotted in an otherwise normal northwest Harris County neighborhood on Friday evening.

At 6:25 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at a home at the Meadows of Northwest Park neighborhood in the 9700 block of Phil Halstead Drive.

Investigators said a mother called 911 saying her 28-year-old son-in-law was armed and assaulting her daughter who is believed to be in her late 20s.

The mother arrived at the house with her husband before law enforcement came and were confronted by the 28-year-old in the front yard.

The 28-year-old suspect shot his wife’s stepfather, 38, and barricaded himself inside the home as he discharged the firearm several more times.

The 38-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

The suspect allegedly shot at his wife who was grazed by a bullet and treated at the scene.

People living in the part of the neighborhood with the police activity were being kept away from their homes.

The HCSO SWAT team said when they set up a perimeter, they were able to make contact with the barricaded suspect.

Investigators said the suspect made statements saying he would not be taken to jail. Eventually, he cut off all contact with deputies.

After several hours, HCSO SWAT was able to get a visual of the suspect and determined he was dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect was out on bond in Harris County for a previous aggravated assault family member charge.

This case is being investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene Units.
