BENEFIT SATURDAY FOR NEW CANEY HIT AND RUN VICTIM

A benefit will be held this Saturday from 10am to 4 pm at the Down The Road Bar, located at 27952 FM 1485 East in New Caney which is inside the old civic center.
Bar-b-que plates will be $7 each and there will be a large amount of auction items.
Kendrick Owens, age 13 was walking with a friend down FM 1485 near the New Caney Fire Station on March 6, when he was struck and killed by Javier I. Correa age 29 of New Caney.
Law Enforcement officials were alerted to Correa driving his 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup north on US 59 just north of Kingwood. He was reported to be weaving and unable to maintain a single marked lane.
Hearing the call go out on the police scanners wrecker driver Aubrey LaBuff approached the intersection of FM1485 and US 59 just in time t see Correa turn and start heading north on FM1485.
Fiollowing behind he called 911 and was giving them his location when he witnessed Correa strike Kendrick Owens on the shoulder of the road.
Seeing someone had stopped to render assistance Mr.LaBuff contiunued following Correa to his home and was able to guide law enforcement officials to the location where he was taken into custody.
Meanwhile Paramedics, firefighters and first responders worked to save Owens. He was flown by PHI Air Medical to Hermann Hospital in Houiston where he later died.
Correa was charged with intoxicated manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid. He remains in the Montgomery County Jail. In addition to the charges he has an Immigration hold on him.
According to Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam Correa is due to appear in court on April 28th in Judge Edwards Court.
