EAST MONTGOMERY COUNTY- An 18-wheeler accident around 11 p.m. Saturday night shut down the southbound lanes of US 59 north of SH 242 four hours.

Patton Village Police Chief Joe Schultea said the tractor trailer struck the construction barrier for unknown reasons, causing the driver to lose control. The tractor rolled over and caught fire about 300 feet from where the accident began, Schultea said.
The driver was able to get out of the truck before it was consumed by fire. He sustained only minor injuries and was transported to Kingwood hospital by MCHD ground ambulance for treatment.
Heavy duty wreckers were called to move the debris and Milstead Environmental cleaned up the spilled oil and other fluids.
TxDOT responded to check the crash barrier.
