Firefighters conducted a thorough building check, and the call has been determined to be a false alarm. Classes will now return to the normal routine.

9:05 a.m. Update

Firefighters arrived and don’t see smoke or fire from the building. They’re now checking it out.

8:55 a.m.

Firefighters are responding to Tarkington Middle School where a strong smell of smoke has been reported in one area, but no fire has been reported as seen. Students are being relocated to the gym. In a previous similar situation at another school, it turned out to have been a fire in trashcan that was already out – It’s likely something like that and not an actual structure fire. However, school officials and firefighters are taking every precaution to ensure students are safe. There’s no need to call the school or go there at this time.
