CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- A jury has unanimously voted not guilty in the trial of the school resource officer accused of of abandoning or endangering elementary school students during the 2022 mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
In the 2022 mass shooting, 19 children and two teachers were shot to death. Adrian Gonzales was accused of abandoning or endangering the students when the shooting occurred.
The trial last two weeks, and jury deliberations lasted seven hours ending Wednesday afternoon with a finding of not guilty.
Gonzales pleaded not guilty to 29 counts of child abandonment or endangerment (19 for the children who died, and 10 counts for those who survived). He was one of two officers charged.
Victims’ families were extremely upset and vocal regarding the verdict, saying it sent the wrong message to law enforcement entrusted with the safety of young children.
