CLEVELAND, TX- A little before noon, a fiber optic company struck a gas line in the 100 block of Crockett St. in downtown Cleveland, causing a major leak, necessitating precautionary evacuations. Cleveland Police Chief Darrel Broussard says a CenterPoint Energy crew is en route and the evacuation is expected to last approximately 4 to 6 hours.
Cleveland Police are assisted with evacuation of Southside Bank, the three story ECR Medical building, and other nearby occupied buildings. Children evacuated from a daycare were temporarily taken to Pace Stancil Funeral Home for their safety. Union Pacific Railroad has been notified.
