SOUTH MONTGOMERY COUNTY- A shopper was attacked in the parking lot of The Woodlands Mall on Thursday by a man she told police was going to take her vehicle, but when she fought back, he shot her in the leg. Law enforcement swarmed the area and attacker was found and arrested.

Lt. Dan Norris of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. on the north side of the mall near J.C. Penny’s as the 23-year-old victim was exiting her Toyota sedan.

The suspect approached her demanding her car, but the woman put up a fight and at some point during the struggle, a shot was fired into her upper leg. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in good condition.

Deputy Dax Bayer was first on the scene, arriving about one minute after the dispatch, and collected information from witnesses about the suspect’s description and direction of travel. Bayer was soon joined by multiple officers, and Sgt. Brady Fitzgerald found the suspect hiding in tall grass near the overpass at Lake Woodlands and I-45.

The suspect was arrested and was positively identified as the suspect by several witnesses.

Deputy Mike White with the Pct. 2 Constable’s Office responded with K-9 Jax to search for the discarded weapon. A handgun was recovered from the area where the suspect was found.

Although he initially refused to give his name, the suspect was later identified as 20-year-old Duvan Johnson of Houston. He is charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. No bond amount is posted on the jail roster as of Friday morning.
