SOCCER COACH AND PLAYER STRUCK BY LIGHTNING

Just about 730pm several young children were playing soccer at Crippen Elem. on Cumberland Drive in Porter. The skies darkened and a bolt of lightning struck on of the soccer coach who was standing on the field talking on the cell phone. A nine-year-old girl standing next to him was also hit. The coach was in full cardiac arrest when EMS and Porter Fire Department arrived on the scene. Due to the intense rain that started just after that PHI and Life Flight were unable to respond. The coach was transported to Hermann Hospital at the Texas Medical Center. Enroute paramedics were able to restore a heartbeat but he was still not breathing on his own.

The nine-year-old girl was transported to Northeast Medical Center in Humble in stable condition. She was unable to recall what had happened.

One of the young soccer players told us, “my coach was talking on the cell phone and thunder came down and hit him.”
