SAN JACINTO COUNTY, TX – A massive explosion at a chemical plant on FM 1127 in the Shepherd area occurred around 8:30 a.m. Multiple additional explosions followed, and US Hwy 59 is closed in both directions in the Shepherd area. Firefighters, medics, law enforcement and hazardous material specialists have converged on the area and are still enroute but it’s unclear how many victims are involved or what dangers may be posted by the enormous plume of smoke that darkened the sky and spread a haze of unknown contaminates in the air.
