Breaking News: Incident at Lone Star College – Woodlands Campus *UPDATE*

**UPDATE**

12:35 p.m.

There was NOT A SHOOTING at Lone Star College Woodlands Campus, but the campus HAD been placed on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown has been lifted.

Here’s what we now know- A young woman, in the midst of a panic attack, walked into the Lone Star Campus Police Office saying she thought she’d been shot. Campus police called 911 and placed the school on lockdown. EMS arrived and it was quickly apparent to them the young woman hadn’t been shot. By then, campus police had managed to get the information from the upset young woman that the incident occurred while she was in her vehicle. They went out to the vehicle and found damage and deer hair from what was obviously an auto vs. deer incident or maybe a “deer vs. auto” incident is more accurate. Once the young woman calmed down, she decided she didn’t need to be transported. The campus lockdown was lifted as soon as police realized it was a deer and not a shooting.

As Fall approaches, people need to remember that deer are in rut (it’s mating season), and they will bolt out into the roadway without warning. Montgomery County has a large number of auto vs. deer incidents every year. They usually don’t become a campus lockdown, but the incident itself is far from unusual. In fact, it’s probably on the increase as development continues at a rapid pace and deer have so much less of their natural habitat.

12 p.m.

Medics and firefighters responded to assist Lone Star College Police at the Woodlands campus on College Park Drive, where the first information dispatched said a woman walked into the school and was shot in the arm.

First responders arrived and quickly said it DOES NOT appear to be a gunshot wound. It’s unclear why it was communicated as a shooting, whether it was ruled out, or what actually happened.

No additional information is available at this time but we’re monitoring the situation.
