Just after noon today a eastbound train approached the crossing at CR 2206 in Liberty County. According to a witness the trains horn was blowing as it approached the unprotected intersection. An 18-wheeler tank truck was traveling northbound on 2206 and failed to yield the right of way to the train. Unable to stop the train struck the truck pushing it more than one hundred yards down the tracks.
The driver of the truck was transported by Life Flight to Hermann Hospital in Houston. The train engineer was transported to Cleveland Hospital in stable condition.
Cleveland Fire Department responded to the scene as did the Baytown Fire Department Haz-Mat team. The tanker which was thought to be loaded had just residual crude oil in it.
Smith towing is on the scene removing the truck from the tracks.
