SAN JACINTO COUNTY, TX- The massive fire the Forest Service joined in extinguishing on Saturday between FM 1097 and FM 1725 has reignited. Aircraft scooped water from Lake Conroe and dumped it on the fire Saturday, while firetrucks sprayed water from the ground and bulldozers worked to stop the spread. Back burning was also used to get it under control and stopped. It appeared to be extinguished late Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the fire is again large and visible.
The photos below were taken moments ago from FM 1097 near Bilnoski Road.
ALL OF THE COUNTIES IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS ARE PART OF THE DROUGHT AND HAVE BURN BANS. LAW ENFORCEMENT IS ISSUING CITATIONS. DO NOT BURN ANYTHING – THE LOWEST FINE IS $1,000! (AND DO NOT TOSS CIGARETTES!)
As always, please yield to emergency vehicles with lights activated and avoid areas with active fires if possible.
