Brother and Sister survive crash North of New Waverly

New Waverly Firefighters and Walker County EMS responded to a major accident this afternoon involving two pickup trucks colliding at the intersection of FM 2296 and Highway 75 between New Waverly and Huntsville.

A 5 year old boy and his 6 year old sister were secured in car seats in the back seat of their Dodge truck when it was struck with tremendous force on the passenger’s side by a Chevrolet truck. Both children were conscious when rescuers arrived, although the 5 year old closest to the impact suffered serious injuries, prompting the decision to transport him by Life Flight helicopter to a trauma center. His mother driving the truck was transported by Walker County EMS in stable condition and his sister was reportedly not injured. DPS Troopers are continuing the investigation into the cause of the accident, but rescuers credit the children’s car seats with saving their lives.
