Busted for Burglary & Damage at the Auto Parts Store

CLEVELAND, TX— A Cleveland man was arrested late Sunday night after allegedly burglarizing and causing significant damage to an O’Reilly Auto Parts store, according to the Cleveland Police Department.

Around 11:35 p.m. Sunday, Cleveland Police responded to a suspicious person report at the O’Reilly Auto Parts at 909 North Washington Ave. Upon arrival, witnesses informed officers that a man was seen breaking into the business’s delivery trucks.

During a subsequent check of the premises, Officers discovered the store’s glass front entrance doors were shattered. Officers continued searching the exterior of the property and found a suspect allegedly hiding behind a dumpster. The suspect matched the description provided by witnesses and was immediately detained. He was identified as 30-year-old Rafael Gonzales, Jr. of Cleveland.

Officers noticed cuts and blood on Gonzales’ hands. He was taken into custody without incident, and emergency medical services were requested to provide medical treatment for his injuries.

Store management later responded to the scene and conducted a walkthrough of the property, estimating the total damage at approximately $50,000.

Gonzales was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building (State Jail Felony), with bond set at $10,000, and Criminal Mischief involving damages totaling more than $30,000 but less than $150,000, a third-degree felony, with bond set at $20,000.

Gonzalez was also found to have an outstanding felony Probation Violation warrant out of Galveston County, issued by the 10th District Court with Judge Millo presiding. The original charge associated with the warrant was Assault on EMS Personnel, with a bond set at $60,000.

The investigation is ongoing.
