LIBERY COUNTY, TX- On December 2, at around 3:45 p.m. Cleveland Police Department Officer Crisanto was patrolling the 800 Block of South Hwy. 59 northbound service road when he saw the driver of a Toyota 4-runner not wearing his seatbelt.
Officer Crisanto initiated a traffic stop, and the driver was identified by his California driver’s license as 43-year-old Jason Anthony Gonzales, who now lives in Baytown. Officer Crisanto asked Gonzales to exit his vehicle due to a strong odor of marijuana wafting from inside. Officer Crisanto asked Gonzales if he had any illegal drugs inside the vehicle, and Gonzales said there was a bong in the center console.
Officer Crisanto conducted a probable cause search on the vehicle and found an orange bong and a blue vape pen believed to contain THC. In the backseat of the vehicle, Officer Crisanto found a backpack with marijuana inside a clear plastic baggie.
Gonzales was taken into custody for Possession of Marijuana, less than 2 ounces, and was transported to the Cleveland Police Department for processing before transport to the Liberty County Jail. The vape pen will be held as evidence and sent for testing, which may result in additional charges. City of Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Ralph Fuller set Gonzales’s bond at $2,500.
