Local Firefighters from Conroe and Montgomery County have been assigned to a Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) strike team that has responded to California to assist over 16,000 other firefighters, who are battling 25 major wildfires. TIFMAS Strike Team 143 departed Texas on Friday, September 11th, and checked in with the Creek Fire Unified Command Post on Sunday September 13th. Since being assigned to the Creek Fire, Strike Team 143 has been busy clearing brush to reinforce fire lines.
The latest update from CAL FIRE, The Creek Fire has now burned 220,025 acres, destroyed over 630 structures, and is 18 % contained. Conroe, Montgomery County, and other Texas firefighters that comprise Strike Team 143 are expecting to remain on station assisting with firefighting effort for a minimum of two weeks.
