capital murder suspect found dead in jail cell

On Friday morning  at approximately 3:00a.m., Detention officers from the Montgomery County Jail found inmate Earl Handy Jr., hanging inside of his cell from a bed sheet tied to the bars. Handy was in a segregation cell alone for medical reasons at the time of his death. Deputies immediately began C.P.R. and E.M.S. was summoned arriving within minutes. Handy was transported by E.M.S. to Conroe Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 4:07am hours. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers are currently investigating.

Handy was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on January 16, 2010 for Capital Murder and Aggravated Assault by the Willis Police Department and was currently awaiting trial which was scheduled for October 18, 2010.

He was accused of fatally stabbing his wife  34 year-old Donna Handy and stabbing her boyfriend Joseph Taylor of Conroe.

Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 T.Spikes conducted an inquest and ordered the body sent to Dallas for an autopsy. This investigation is currently ongoing by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers
