At approximately 3:30 pm on May 4, 2018, a silver 2003 Ford F-250 pickup, driven by Javion Bluford, 21, of San Augustine, was north-bound on US-59 (north of Corrigan near Piney Creek). Bluford’s pickup drifted left and entered the center grassy median and started sliding sideways, then began to roll. Bluford’s vehicle entered the south-bound lanes of 59 and rolled into, and over the top of a black 2013 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Larece Donier Perry, 44, of Coldspring. Bluford’s pickup ripped the roof of Perry’s car, then came to rest in the grass on the south-bound side of 59. Perry’s vehicle also came to rest in the grass on the same side. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Corrigan Police Department (including Chief Daryl Gibson), Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, and Troopers Kevin Burman, Donny Akers, Ashlee White, and Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Sadly, Perry’s passenger, Jeremy Marcus Jones, 36, of Houston, was killed during the accident. Bluford, and Perry were both hospitalized (Bluford to CHI Livingston, and Perry to CHI Lufkin). All traffic on the south-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Justice of the Peace, Darrell Longino performed an inquest at the scene. A first-call car from Corrigan Funeral Home transported Jones from the scene. Both vehicles were recovered by Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. Troopers located multiple handguns and a large amount of cash in Perry’s vehicle.
