Charged with Child Endangerment, Animal Cruelty

HARRIS COUNTY, TX- On Tuesday, Deputies with Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to the McDonald’s located in the 100 block of Richey Road in reference to a welfare check. Upon deputies arriving, they found a woman and 4-year-old child asleep in a non-running vehicle, along with a small puppy.

Investigation revealed that the mother, Miriah Holmes, had her child and puppy inside the vehicle for approximately three hours with no air conditioning. The child was found in the backseat sweating profusely and the dog was hyperventilating.

Deputies immediately provided them with water. EMS arrived on scene and treated the child. The child and puppy were released in good condition to a family member who arrived on the scene.

Child Protection Services was contacted and told the facts of this case.

“Miriah Holmes was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Child Endangerment and Animal Cruelty. Her bond and court information has not been set at this time,” Constable Mark Herman said.
