CHILD DIES IN SATURDAY NIGHT CRASH

A family of six just returned from the movies just before 9 pm Saturday. They were going to finish the night out at the go-cart track on West Mount Houston at McKinley. They were traveling east on West Mount Houston when they stopped in the moving lane of traffic to turn left, across the center turn lane and the west bound lanes to enter the parking lot. A female driver also heading east on West Mount Houston, close to the posted 50 mph did not see the vehicle as she came out of the curve and slammed into the rear of it. A 10-year-old child, who was not wearing a seat belt was critically injured. He was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston by Harris County ESD 1. He died on arrival. A 7-month-old child is in very critical condition. The other four in the van are in stable condition. According to the driver, the 7-month-old was sitting in one of the passengers laps due to the child safety seat being defective. The female that struck the van was not transported to the hospital. Harris County Investigators said the District Attorney’s Office will review the case once the investigation is complete before contemplating charges. West Mount Houston remained closed until just before 1 am.
