benson scene shotMonday morning before the crack of dawn multiple units swarmed a home  at 12638 Royal Shores Drive of Rose Road in North Conroe. The purpose was to execute a search warrant on the home where one resident had already plead guilty to indecency with a child last month.

As they searched the computers for evidence it was clear the guilty party erased any evidence needed for the case. During a further search of the home Precinct 3 Sgt. Keener found a flash drive was found hidden in a closet of one of the bedrooms. On that drive they found multiple images illegal images of children.

They then also realized the person who had recently been convicted of the indecency with a child was not the one responsible for the images on this flash drive. They continued to talk to his brother Kenneth Benson who denied any knowledge of the incident.

The deputies left the home empty handed but one member of that team, was a detective with Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable Ryan Gable’s Office. Detective Stitt went back to the office where he spent almost the entire day checking the flash drive frame by frame. It was nothing but children in various forms of dress and even in the shower which is from what he thought was possibly a hidden camera. It was late afternoon when his break came. As he opened one image the suspect who they had been questioning,  Kenneth Benson was staring him in the face.

It didn’t take long for Detective Stitt to assemble the team back together. Detective Sprague with Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constables Office, Captain Mark Seals with Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables Office, and one of the newest members of the team, Chris Jones with Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constable David Hills Office.

It was after 5 pm and with the week of the Christmas holiday the judges had already left for the day. The team was able to contact Judge Stewart who returned to Conroe and met with the team. After reviewing a second warrant that had been drawn up for the arrest of Kenneth Benson he signed it.

The team then returned to the home on Royal Shores where they discovered the family of Benson had already taken steps of removing him from the community. In the driveway was Benson with multiple trash bags of his possessions. Benson was then arrested.

As they were en route to the Montgomery County Jail Montgomery County Precinct 3 Investigator Sprague was able to get a full confession from Benson.

Benson was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a $100,000 bond for the charge of possession of child pornography. In addition a search came up with several outstanding warrants on Benson. These included a warrant from Precinct One Justice of the Peace Moriarti for driving while license suspended and for an expired registration.

They arrived at the jail close to 6 pm, almost fifteen hours since their day started but were able to take one more child predator off the streets of Montgomery County.

The team has special training in investigation of online child predators and have been directly responsible for, or involved in numerous arrests in Montgomery and surrounding counties. They were also the result of Montgomery County’s newly formed Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The group was recently approved by commissioners and is comprised by the Precinct 3, 4, and 5 Constable’s Offices, Conroe Police Department and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
