Just before 230 am Woodlannds Fire Department received a call for an apartment fire at the Holly Creek Apartments at Holly Creek and Interfaith Way. They were advised that they possibly had victims trapped. About the same time the call came in, Ruben Wells was coming home and as he exited his vehicle saw the flames and heard calls for help. As he got to one of the apartments a young mother was frantic attempting to get to her children still indide. Wells first, after several attempts kicked the door in but flames forced him back. He then took a bicycle and broke the patio door but again was pushed back by the flames. He next went to the bedroom window and after breaking it was able to rescue a 3 and a 5-year-old child. EMS arrived and transported two adults from the apartment for smoke inhalation. THe children were checked and were fine.
Firefighters arrived and were able to confine the flames to two apartments although smoke found its way into 14 other units. A second alarm was pulled to bring in additional manpower.
