On Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at approximately 9:00 pm, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit served a narcotics search warrant at 601 Helen St, Cleveland, Texas. Information was received that methamphetamine was being distributed from that location. The LCSO Special Response Unit (SRT), a LCSO K9 Unit, and the Cleveland Police Department worked together in serving the search warrant and securing the residence.
When the deputies approached the residence, they encountered the suspect who was identified as Joaquin Espinoza 10-8-2001. He was sitting in his vehicle that was parked in the driveway. Espinoza exited the vehicle and refused to comply with the deputy’s commands to stop. He began throwing suspected narcotics over the roof of the garage. After a brief struggle, Espinoza was taken into custody.
As a result of the search, deputies recovered contraband, firearms, and narcotics. Approximately 124 grams (4.37 ounces) of crystal methamphetamine was recovered. Deputies also located approximately 16 grams of Alprazolam and less than one gram of Oxycodone prescription medications. Other things found included small amounts of Marijuana and THC cartridges, that were just collected for destruction, along with multiple items used for distributing narcotics. Deputies recovered a .22 rifle that was located inside the vehicle. Inside a structure a .410 shotgun was also discovered during the search. Espinoza was arrested, transported to the Liberty County Jail, and charged with the following.
• Man/Del CS PG1 4g under 200g (Felony 1)
• Man/Del CS PG1 under 28g (State Jail Felony)
• Possession Controlled Substance PG1 under 1g (State Jail Felony)
• Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence w/Int to Impair (Felony 3)
Espinoza is currently out on bond in Liberty County for the following.
• Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon
• Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence w/Int to Impair
• Possession Controlled Substance PG1
