Cleveland man killed by hit-and-run driver, DPS still searching

DPS is searching for a hit-and-run vehicle that caused the death of 60-year-old Ricky James Carleton of Cleveland and seriously injured his wife, Janice Alexander Carleton around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday near Cut-and-Shoot.

A gold Dodge Intrepid, Texas license plate PVP600, was traveling southbound on Willis Waukegan to Highway 105, where the vehicle ran the stop sign and then stopped in the westbound lane of Highway 105, directly in the path of a GMC Yukon.

The Yukon swerved left and then back to the right, attempting to avoid a collision, which caused the SUV to start flipping. The Intrepid did not stop.

Janice Carleton, 60, was driving and her husband was seated behind her. They were transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center where Ricky Carleton was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ricky Carleton would have turned 61 on July 2.
