cleveland near drowning

Memorial Day Weekend has started out with several near tragedies on area waterways. Just before 5 p.m. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Lake Patrol was dispatched to a person who was in the water and as the caller stated slipping under. Several units responded to the scene. Just prior to their arrival another call came in that people were able to get life vests to the man and pulled him out onto the pontoon boat.

It was at that point dispatchers notified rescue boats enroute that the person was out of the water and weren’t going to wait for rescue personal to arrive on the scene,. They then left the area.

Moments later a boat crash was dispatched but there were no injuries and minor damage to the vessels near shore.

At 5:15 p.m. Cleveland Fire Department was dispatched to County Road 3747 in the Southern Crossing Subdivision. It was reported a thirteen-year old female was pulled from the community lake and CPR was being performed.

When Cleveland EMS, DPS and Liberty County units arrived the child was not responsive. Crews worked for over twenty minutes before they were able to revive her. She was transported to Kingwood Hospital in critical condition.

Deputies are questioning the grandfather who was on the scene and had taken responsibility to watch after her at the lake.
