Operation Blue Elf is the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office “Boots on the ground” effort to give back to our community. They have partnered with the Sheriff’s Office Citizen Academy Alumni Association [MCSCAAA], a 501 (c ) (3) nonprofit organization, to help with fundraising and staffing this amazing event. Close to 400 bicycles were purchased thanks to donations and sponsors such as Woodforest Bank, Waste Solutions, and Walmart.
For the past 7 years, Operation Blue Elf has provided a Christmas celebration and toys to children who might otherwise do without. They partner with local schools, who are better able to identify those families who have a need to help boost their holiday cheer. In years past they have endeavored to give those children nominated the toys they select from our list of toys that Santa’s Blue Elves are able to provide. Since last year that changed and they are concentrating in a different area – “Bikes and Badges!” , giving children bikes. Along with that Montgomery County Hospital District was on hand with a helmet for each child who received a bike. Medics spent time sizing each child with the proper helmet.
The event was held Saturday at the Montgomery County Fair Grounds. Displays had been set up from law enforcement including drones, air boats, SWAT vehicles, patrol cars, and the command vehicle to let children see all aspects of law enforcement.
