COMEAUX GETS 60 YEARS

Arcade Joseph Comeaux was found guilty of kidnapping on Thursday. May 21, 2011.  On Friday the same jury sentenced him to 60 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. However, Judge Hamilton did not just pass a sentence onto him after the jury returned.

After talking with prosecutors and the defense team she agreed with the prosecutor that the 60 years could be stacked on his current time. When Comeaux finishes his life sentence which he received in Brazos County for Aggravated sexual assault in October of 1997, he must start serving the additional two life sentences which he received in Fort Bend County in 2003 for a July 1999 Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Fort Bend charges came as he was already in prison. His wife came to visit him and he stabbed her with a handmade weapon and then attacked a bystander who tried to help.

With the 60-year sentence, Judge Hamilton ordered that when his Fort Bend County case is complete he then will start serving the Montgomery County sentence.

On November 30, 2009, Comeaux who was confined to a wheelchair was being transferred to a TDCJ unit in Beaumont. When the guards got to the area just west of downtown Conroe Comeaux displayed a pistol and fired one time in the van and was able to take the guards hostage. They traveled down Interstate 45 and west to Baytown.

The van was found later that day behind an old Baytown Hospital. A window had been shot out from the inside and the two guards were handcuffed in the back. Comeaux had fled on foot leaving his wheelchair behind. He also took one of the guard’s uniforms and wore it.

Authorities surrounded the old hospital thinking he could still be in there but came up empty-handed.

He was found a week later asleep in a school bus in Houston.

Comeaux attorney are planning to file for an appeal.

A little after 5:00 p.m. deputies rolled Comeaux out of the courtroom to a waiting van to transport him back to the Montgomery County Jail.
