CONROE ISD BUS HIT BY OUT OF CONTROL TRUCK

Just after 5 p.m.a Conroe ISD bus driver was southbound on FM 1485 south of Firetower Road. She had just dropped several students off. Just as she began to accelerate Robert Wayne Cress, 35 who was northbound on FM 1485 slammed on his brakes causing him to lose control on the wet road. His truck went sideways in front of the bus and was t-boned.

There were twenty-eight students onboard along with the bus driver. There were no injuries in either vehicle.

Cress is being charged by DPS for driving with a suspended license, expired registration, failure to control speed and not displaying the correct registration on his vehicle. His window sticker registration did not belong to the truck he was driving.

Robert’s towing assisted CISD in pulling the bumper from the front tire of the bus to enable it to drive. Students were transferred to another bus and some parents picked their children up if they had proper identification. FM 1485 was closed for over an hour.

EDITORS NOTE: THE DRIVER OF THIS BUS MAY HAVE SEEN THE TRUCK SLIDING TOWARD HER AND COULD POSSIBLY HAVE AVOIDED THE COLLISSION BY GOING INTO THE DITCH. IT APPEARS THIS IS WHERE EXPERIENCE COMES IN.  IF SHE WOULD HAVE GONE TO THE DEEP DITCH, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INJURIES TO THE STUDENTS. AS IT IS ALL 28 STUDENTS WERE UNINJURED.
