conroe man kills one injures four in galveston

graysonMichael Shane Grayson, 22 of Conroe has been charged by Galveston Police with one count of intoxicated manslaughter and four counts of intoxicated assault after he slammed into the rear of a horse drawn carriage at 21st and Avenue L in Galveston.

Bobby McKelvey, 57, of Sugarland died Saturday evening after the 11 p.m. crash. Renee McKelvey, 46, remains in stable condition. She is the wife of Bobby McKelvey.

Joe Hodsdon, 26, of Galveston and the operator of the carriage along with an additional passenger Holli Vowell, 18.

After Grayson struck the carriage he attempted to flee the scene of the crash but was detained by witnesses. His passenger Garrett Constance, 22 of the Woodlands was a  in Grayson’s 2006 Infinity G35 and was treated and released at the hospital.

The horse suffered minor injuries.

The carriage was heading back to Hotel Galvez after celebrating a birthday when the crash happened.

Grayson remains in the Galveston County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
