Conroe Mayor’s Statement on Saturday Protest & Arrests

Statement from Mayor Duke W. Coon regarding arrests made at “peaceful” protest in downtown Conroe —

A planned peaceful protest regarding citizens’ rights to express their opinions on immigration enforcement was organized for this evening in downtown Conroe. The city was aware of the protest and prepared to address any disruptions or challenges during the event.

At approximately 5:30 PM, several protesters, believed to have come from Houston and Harris County, became aggressive, disorderly, and unlawful and assaulted a Conroe Police Officer. Conroe Police Officers took necessary actions to secure the area, ensuring everyone’s safety.
Five protesters were arrested and transported to Montgomery County Jail. The group of instigators was dispersed through a collaborative effort involving county-wide law enforcement, including the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Numerous Montgomery County Constable Departments also assisted. All agencies worked together to ensure the safety of the citizens of Conroe.

I want our citizens to know that our officers did an outstanding job managing this situation. Our city is safe. To those individuals planning to come to our community to cause chaos, attack our officers, and break our laws, your actions will not be tolerated, and you will be arrested. — Mayor Duke W. Coon
