Last Saturday, January 18, 2025, just before 4 am, Bethany Faith King, 30, of Conroe was crossing North Loop 336 at Thompson in the right lane. A witness passed her and then saw a vehicle in his mirror headlights quickly swerve. As the vehicle, identified as a black 2015 Honda Civic approached the witness he saw it strike two different curbs. As the Honda pulled next to him he noticed damage to the bumper and headlight. The witness followed the vehicle to Planet Fitness where a Hispanic driver and passenger exited the car, looked at the damage and started to walk toward I-45. The witness was able to get a good look at their clothing. He then turned around and went back to where he had seen the person crossing. He confirmed she had been him and called 911. Conroe Police then investigated the vehicle the witness saw. It was registered by Tomas Rolando Chiguil Tuy, at 4085 Tanglewilde in Houston. Inside the car was two cold bottles of beer. In the center console, police found a passport from Guatemala. The name on the passport was Santos Sapon Garcia. A paper receipt for a money transfer to Guatemala was also found in the vehicle which had been issued from a store in Houston the morning before the crash. Conroe Officers traveled to Houston to check on an address for the driver and check with the store where the transfer took place. At the store, they were able to obtain a video of the transaction. The video showed the Honda pulling up, both driver and passenger entering the store, completing the transaction, and leaving. There was a logo on the hats of both males that Conroe Officers recognized as a logo from The Icehouse, a bar that was close to where the crash happened. After viewing the video the witness identified both males as the ones he saw the night of the crash. When officers went to the bar they learned both males were barbacks there at the business and had been working the night of the crash. Conroe Police obtained a warrant and arrested Santos Sapon Garcia, age 32. He is now being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $50,000 bond and charged with Failure to stop and render aid involving death.
