At 5:00a.m. Saturday morning a two vehicle major accident was reported to Conroe Police on Interstate 45 northbound, north of Crighton Road. A Magnolia Police officer enroute to the jail with a prisoner ran up on it protecting the scene with his lights.
Two mini-vans were involved. One rear-ended the other and both drivers were transported to Conroe Regional.
Conroe Police arrived on the scene to work the accident at approximately 5:15. Officer Blackwelder had exited his vehicle and walked to the vans. He was a short distance away, other units were enroute to assist him since I was in the moving lane of traffic.
It was at that point that Alberto Becerra-Singletary, age 19 of Spring drove through the scene in his 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis and slammed into the rear-end of Blackwelder’s patrol car.
Blackwelder was not injured or was the driver of the Marquis. The patrol car sustained major damage. Becerra-Singletary was arrested for DWI and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
Bacerra-Singletary who lives on Shadow Crest Lane in Spring is not new to the criminal justice system. On September 3, 2009 he was arrested for Possession of Marijuana in a Drug Free Zone.For that he was given fifteen months Deferred Probation Then on August 26, 2010 he was arrested in Brenham on Possession of Marijuana and given two years probation.
The freeway was closed after the second accident and reopened just before 7a.m.
The female driver from each of the mini-vans is in stable condition at Conroe Regional.
