Conroe Police Chief Jon Buckholtz had the following information posted on social media to stop the wild rumors with fictitious information that had begun to spread across locally based social media groups:

The Conroe Police Department is aware of false social media reports of an active shooter in the Conroe area. Although an isolated incident occurred at approximately 6:30 PM, there have been no injuries reported and no indication of further gunfire. Our officers are working diligently to find the suspect involved. We have notified our law enforcement partners in the surrounding areas, who are assisting our officers. We ask that unverified information not be reposted or shared. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the police department at 936-522-3200
