Harris County Constable Mark Herman’s Office has recently deployed (5) five state-of-the-art drones to aid in recovery of missing children and elderly persons, searching for and capturing suspects that have fled on foot, and for operations involving our Special Operations Unit while serving search and arrest warrants. All five drones, along with additional parts and equipment, were donated to Constable Mark Herman’s Office by Greystar Residential and the Birchway Spring Cypress Apartment Community in Spring, TX.
The drones have an average flight time of 3 hours and are equipped with 56x zoom capable thermal/infrared camera to assist patrol and K9 units in searching dense forested areas, parks, and flood control right of ways even during nighttime hours. The drones have a maximum range of 9 miles and can travel at up to 46 miles per hour when needed.
During the past few months, Constable Mark Herman’s Office has trained dozens of Precinct 4 deputies and obtained their FAA 107 license to remotely fly the drones. These deputies work across all shifts and patrol districts and will carry them in their patrol vehicles to be deployed as needed for emergency calls and operations.
THERE WILL BE AN INVITATION LATER THIS WEEK TO THE COMMUNITY AND MEDIA TO SEE THESE DRONES IN OPERATION.
