At 3:30 pm Caney Creek Fire department was dispatched t a grass and woods fire on Coon Massey Road just off FM 3083. Just as the first unit went on the scene the fire jumped Coon Massey from what appeared to be a fie started by an illegal burn. The fire got into some high grass and brush and started running. Extra equipment was called for from Cut and Shoot, New Caney and River Plantation.
A local resident contained some of the fire from nearing several homes with his tractor. Another using a garden hose as flames came within twenty feet of his home The hose wasn’t quite long enough to stop the flames from engulfing two natural gas meters. One erupted in flames.
The Montgomery County Fire Marshal did issue a citation on the illegal burn.
