Two San Jacinto County residents racked up five felony charges each, in less than half an hour Saturday. Around 7:30 p.m., a local resident contacted a Montgomery County Pct. 4 Deputy Constable in reference to five children inside a vehicle that was parked without the engine running in front of the Walgreens on FM 1314 in Porter. The concerned citizen said the keys were in the ignition and an open alcoholic beverage was visible inside the vehicle. He also said the children were sweating profusely and very red, having been inside the hot vehicle for an estimated 20 to 30 minutes, and no adult had been seen checking on them during that time.
The deputy went to the location and saw the children just as the concerned citizen described them. Their ages were 1, 2, 5, 8, and 10 years old. One of the children told the deputy their parents were in the store. He then went inside and found the parents, Michael Bledsoe and Kimberly Cazalas.
Medics were called to check out the children and determined they were healthy. They were released to the care of a grandparent.
A review of the store’s surveillance video showed the children were left in the hot car for approximately 20 minutes, and neither parent walked out of the store to check on them during that time.
Bledsoe said he knew they made a mistake leaving the children in the vehicle, and said he was also aware the keys were left in the car. Cazalas tried to take responsibility for the incident alone and said she should be the one arrested.
Bledsoe was a parolee.
Michael Alann Bledsoe, 25, of Coldspring is charged with five counts of second-degree felony Abandon / Endangering Child with imminent danger of death, bodily injury, physical or mental impairment.
Kimberly Ann Cazalas, 29, of Cleveland is charged with five counts of second-degree felony Abandon / Endangering Child with imminent danger of death, bodily injury, physical or mental impairment.
