Airport Shooting Suspect Charged, Victim Identified

LIBERTY COUNTY, TX– The victim of yesterday’s Cleveland shooting has been identified as 29-year-old Jesse Ray Rogers, of Cleveland.

The shooting occurred around 8:45 Wednesday morning, in front of Cleveland Municipal Airport on FM 787. Cleveland Police say Rogers was working at the airport when he was approached by 20-year-old Marco Elihu Jacques, also of Cleveland, who is an former employee of the Cleveland Municipal Airport. Jacques was carrying a shotgun, police said, and demanded the victim get into his car. Rogers reportedly refused, and Jacques shot him and then fled in his car.

Cleveland Police found Rogers collapsed near a hangar, where he was pronounced dead. CPD Dispatch issued a regional broadcast alerting other agencies of the circumstances and identity of the fleeing suspect, along with a description of his car. The Colorado County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by the Eagle Lake Police Department, arrested Jacquez at 12:13 p.m. the same day. Police say when he left the scene of the shooting, he fled to his brother’s house in Eagle Lake, Texas.

Marco Elihu Jacques has been charged with Capital Murder, which will make him eligible for the death penalty if convicted.
