CPD Says Man Took the Money and Ran

LIBERTY COUNTY, TX- Just after midnight Friday, August 30, Cleveland Police Officer Ortega responded to the Police Department’s lobby in reference to a theft call. Officer Ortega met with the victim who said Robert Green stole $400 from her.

She claimed around 11 p.m. she drove to Vertex Bank to withdraw $400, and then she drove west on E. Hanson St. As she approached S. Franklin Avenue, she said Robert Green, who she considered a friend, waved for her to stop.  When she pulled over, she said he asked her for $20. When she reached inside her purse to get the $20, she said he spotted the rest of the $400 she’d withdrawn. The victim claims Green then forcefully reached inside in the vehicle and grabbed all of the money and ran, disappearing into the darkness.

The victim said she’s known Green for several years and felt comfortable stopping. The woman said it was very upsetting because she willingly agreed to give Green the $20 he requested.

Detective Cooke with the CPD Criminal Investigation Division conducted a further investigation and interviewed the victim and obtained more details and evidence. Cooke then secured an arrest warrant for Robert Green for state jail felony Theft from a Person.

On September 5, CPD Officer J. Kelly arrested 39-year-old Robert Tyrone Green, of Cleveland, on the felony warrant. Green was taken to the Cleveland Police Department Jail, and later transported to the Liberty County Jail where he remains on a $10,000 bond.
